It’s Always Something: Finding Peace Amidst the Chaos

If it’s not one thing, it’s another. But it’s always something. Stress is an inevitable part of life. No matter how much we plan, prepare, or try to avoid it, there's always something that can set our nerves on edge. Whether it’s an unexpected bill, a challenging work project, or concerns about the future, stress has a way of sneaking into our lives when we least expect it. But here’s the thing: we always manage to get through it.

This month, I had a huge problem. My car was struggling to start and the engine light came on. I took it to an auto parts store so they could diagnose with the little machine thingy. It turns out that the ECU (computer/brain) was going out and it could only be fixed at a Toyota dealership. I called the nearest dealership to discuss and was given an estimate. It was the same amount as my upcoming paycheck and that’s only because I had worked 18 hours of overtime. I was in inner turmoil when I realized I would have to push my bills out and spend the whole wad on car repairs. Why, oh why, did this have to happen?

I remembered that 3 years ago, around this same time of year, I was stressed out over the engine going out in my Dodge Avenger. 2 years before that, same time of year, I was stressed out because someone had run a red light, hitting me and totaling my car. I had a job that involved driving and I had no vehicle. It seemed like the end of the world, but I made it through each of those and I knew that I would make it through this too.

Looking at my budget, I realized that this is a month with 3 paydays. It really sucked that I have this major repair bill to cover but how fortunate I am that I worked enough hours to cover it. And again, I am blessed that there is a 3rd paycheck coming that can keep me on track for the month. I felt much better after finding the silver lining in the dark cloud. Focusing on gratitude can really turn your day around.

It’s easy to feel weighed down by the endless list of stressors. But what if we shifted our perspective? What if, instead of seeing stress as something to fear, we viewed it as a sign that we’re alive, growing, and evolving? Stress often comes when we’re stepping out of our comfort zone, taking on new challenges, or navigating change. These are all signs of progress.

Life, with all its unpredictability, can feel overwhelming at times. But remember that you have a track record of overcoming obstacles. You have made it through 100% of your most challenging days. Every sleepless night, every heart-pounding moment of panic, every tear shed in frustration—you've survived it all. That’s a testament to your strength and resilience.

It’s okay to acknowledge that life can be tough. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed. In those moments of doubt, reach out for support. Whether it’s talking to a friend or meditation or getting out in nature for a walk, find what helps you reconnect with your inner calm. Remember that you’re not alone in this journey—there’s always someone who can lend a listening ear, a helping hand or a comforting word.

Life will continue to throw challenges your way (and mine.) Face it with the knowledge that you’ve faced it before, and you’ve come out stronger every time. You are resilient, capable, and more than enough. Whatever life throws at you, you’ve got this.
